Circa 1953
This item is in Mint Condition. This one is also out of my collection. An exceptionally rare piece, most likely made in 1953. It is early because of the initial sheath design, made only for a very short period before changes were made. The slash and loop closures were replaced with the pin and ball closure.
Evidently, the initial sheath had problems with breakage and came apart easily.
The knife and sheath are beautiful. I had some professional restoration done to the sheath. One of the loops had separated. I had the loop repaired and the leather rehydrated. I think now, the sheath is perfect, but it is a display piece.
The box is beautiful, but it is not original to the knife. This box would have been made in the late 50s and or early 60s. It is correct for the model, but the knife was made much earlier.
The frosting on the blade that you see in some photos is actually a lacquer finish. It was applied to protect the finish on the blade.. These early knives were made from high-carbon steel and were prone to rust and staining. It is easily removed with acetone or lacquer thinner.
It has been in my collection for 20+ years. I doubt I will ever see one this early again.
